The jaffle has been part of everyday Aussie life for a very long time. It was even invented in Australia. You’d never pick it, but in 1949 a humble fellow by the name of Dr Earnest Smithers created the very first jaffle iron, in his Bondi backyard.
This Australia Day, why not taste something Australian and try one of these sweet or savory jaffle creations?
In the video below, chef and 2016 NT Local Hero David Taylor will work alongside equality and acceptance advocate Paige Horrigan, showing you how to make jaffles from Australia’s own native superfood – the quandong (as well as an even sweeter treat).
